An itinerary combining natural environment with agricultural activities which explore the social and cultural environment of the villages producing organic cocoa.
We travel through beautiful landscapes into the Rio Contador valley up to the hydroelectric power plant, enjoying views of luxuriant plants and native birds. Passing through a series of tunnels excavated in the mountain during the colonial era and home to hundreds of bats, we will discover the pictoresque Angolar Waterfall hidden in a cliff forming a natural amphitheatre. On the way back, we follow the cocoa route, starting in Generosa, whose population is mainly from Cape Verde. We will climb Monte Careca from where we will have a magnificent view of the West coast and the city of Neves. The walk will conclude in Monte Forte where we will learn about cocoa processing at the headquarters of the CECAB Cooperative, producers of organic cocoa.
Part of the profits from the cocoa route are devolved to projects aimed to improve living conditions in local communities and to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in São Tomé and Príncipe.
