The West coast of the island is completely wild and occupied by the Natural Park Obô of São Tomé, with no access roads or villages. Occasionally you can meet a few fishermen and hunters, but it is mainly lush green forest. This is where rare birds endemic to the island – like the Ibis of São Tomé – can still be spotted. The Forest Giant Snail, an endangered species, can also be found here.
