This trekking itinerary provides the best spots for birdwatching species typical of the high-altitude primary forest. From Bom Sucesso, base of the Natural Park Obô de S.Tomé, we follow the trail towards Lagoa Amelia. During the journey we will spot giant begonias, arborescent ferns and other local plants and birds distinctive of the high-altitude forest. We will trek around the edge of the crater of Lagoa Amelia and return to Bom Sucesso by taking the “path of the Fugitives”, the ideal place for observing indigenous birds. Enjoy the luscious plants as well as the magnificent views over the green valleys encompassing the trail and especially over the Pico of São Tomé, the highest in the country.
