“Rumo ao sul” (“Going South”) is a path of responsible and sustainable tourism, designed and developed by communities in the southern part of the island of São Tomé, that allows to come into contact with various social and cultural aspects of this region.
Take a panoramic view between the jungle and sea in the way to the south, enjoy with Pico Cão Grande rasing up from these florest and take oportunity to visit and refresch in Praia Pesqueira’s waterfall.
You will discover the mazes of the Malanza’s Mangrove, teeming with birds and sheltering the “Cucumba”, a half-amphibious fish that can breathe out of the water. The Malanza’s Mangrove is a protected area and a transition ecosystem between land and sea. It is home to several species of animals and it represents the best natural fish incubator in the southern region of the island. Being the perfect breeding ground for many marine and bird species, it is considered an invaluable ecological sanctuary.
We will also visit the Cultural Centre in Porto Alegre and enjoy a tasty lunch prepared by the women who manage the restaurant on Jalé Beach, one of the best beaches on the island. The crystalline waters of Praia Piscina will revitalize and refresh you in the afternoon, before heading back to your accommodation.
